Fall Newsletter

November 2005

All of us here at Spiritual Directions hope you have been able to enjoy this beautiful fall season.  We have a number of upcoming short workshops to provide some spiritual inspiration and nourishment for you as the days become shorter and cooler in November and December.  We also plan to have 2 new sections in this and future newsletters.  One will feature brief articles on various healing or growth modalities, and the other will consist of brief book reviews and/or recommendations.  This month’s article is on TAT, an energy technique for healing allergies.

October has been a month of bad news and good news here at the office.  Our computer crashed/died the first part of October and after two failed attempts to fix it, we decided to purchase a new one.  We are still having some difficulties with the e-mail system so if you e-mailed us in October and never heard back, your e-mail may be one of the ones lost.  Please send it again.

The good news is that we now have a great new computer with a flat LED monitor which leaves Gloria more room for her pretty flower arrangements and will hopefully give us good service for several more years.

Another piece of good news, which you may all appreciate, is that we are hoping to soon begin using a new e-newsletter program with which we can format a much more attractive newsletter.

We are also excited about a number of new facilitators and programs beginning now and in the spring.

Sylvia is also in the process of redoing our web-site, trying to make it more colorful and dynamic.  It now has a site map which enables viewers to quickly find the page they want, instead of following through one or more links to get there. Although it is still a work in progress with a few glitches, you can get an idea of the new look.  Sylvia would appreciate feedback and/or suggestions.   Please e-mail her at griffitj@telus.net with web site in the subject line.

TAT For Allergies

by Sylvia Polay Griffith

Do you suffer from food or environmental allergies?  Spend your hard-earned money on anti-histamines instead of evenings out or other treats?  Until recently most of us with allergies had no other easy options. Fortunately, this is no longer true.  Several years ago I learned of an energy technique that actually permanently clears up allergies.  It is called the Tapas Acupressure Technique -- TAT for short.

The reason TAT can dispatch your allergies with such ease is that allergies are nothing more than your immune system making a mistake and identifying something harmless or even beneficial as dangerous.  When our immune system perceives danger it goes into immediate (sometimes delayed) action and disburses a flood of chemicals throughout your body.  In the case of allergies it is primarily histamine and immunoglobulin E that are disbursed.

Histamines are produced by mast cells in various tissues in the body.  If the active mast cells are in your skin you have an itchy rash; in the nasal membranes, you have itchy, sneezy, watery eyes and nose; (sound like a commercial we’ve all heard a thousand times?) in the brain, headaches or foggy thinking; in the digestive system, indigestion, bloating, diarrhoea, cramps, etc.  You get the idea.

Anti-histamines work by simply blocking or counteracting the flood of histamines.  Allergy shots correct your immune system’s mistaken beliefs by letting it experience tiny amounts of the allergen and slowly come to realize that it is not dangerous.  Both these treatments do work.  However, they are time consuming and/or expensive.  TAT works on the same principle as allergy shots, only it quickly teaches the immune system that a certain allergen is not dangerous.

The only down side of TAT is that you will have to whittle away at your allergies one at a time until you finally get them all.  No big deal if you only have a few, but somewhat time consuming if you have dozens of sensitivities.   It is worth the time!   Each TAT only takes about 10 to 15 minutes.  You could probably clear 2 or 3 a day if you have a half hour to spare each day.  It is also possible to sometimes clear similar allergies such as nuts as a block.  You use muscle testing to find out from your own internal wisdom if this is possible.

Steps of TAT

If you have a way of muscle testing yourself or someone to do it for you, ask your body if it would be beneficial now to do a TAT on “such and such”, and check at the end of each step to see if it is complete.   If not, you can just go ahead and spend about 1 to 2 minutes in each step.  See end of article for a precaution.

  1. Be in the TAT pose and think about/remember the allergen and the symptoms.  In other words, think about drinking a glass of milk and focus on the memory of your itchy, stuffy nose.
  2.  Think about what is true.  i.e. “I can have a healthy, normal relationship with house dust.  It is not dangerous.  If it really were dangerous the whole world would be sick.  Most people can be in the presence of house dust and have no symptoms.  Therefore it can’t be dangerous.” You use whatever words make sense to you and talk to yourself in a convincing manner.
  3. Set your intention on “I am now clearing all the origins of this allergy”.  Origins are events in your own life or in an ancestor’s life that caused your body to come to its mistaken belief.  You do not need to know consciously what these were.  Your subconscious remembers everything that ever happened to you and how it is all connected, and the TAT process is happening at a subconscious level.
  4. Set your intention on “I am now clearing all the places in my body where this allergy has been stored.”  By this we mean all the tissues and organs as well as the energy field.

The TAT Pose
This is essential; without the TAT pose nothing would happen. It is required for each step.  You place your thumb and ring finger on the little tear duct lumps in the inside corners of your 2 eyes.  The middle finger (not the pointer, the one next to it) is placed about a half inch above the nose (the third eye position).  The other hand cups the occipital hump on the back of your head (thumb is just above hairline and palm is centred on the back of your head).  You do not have to press; barely touching is fine.

People do vary in the amount of time each step takes so if one minute steps do not seem to be working, do them a little longer or find someone to help you muscle test to find out what is going on.  It is really important to drink lots of water during and for 24 hours after a TAT.  Your body energy is flowing differently now and your body is adjusting to the new status quo.  The water helps this process.  It is also very important not to overwhelm the body with too much change all at once, so unless you are muscle testing and getting a clear go ahead to do another TAT, never do more than a half hour per day TAT process.  Don’t worry if you feel somewhat tired after doing a TAT.  It is a normal reaction to the adjustment process your body is going through.

Happy “TATing”, and enjoy your new allergy freedom!  Feel free to call me if you have any problems.

If you would like to know more about other physical, emotional and mental problems for which TAT is effective please visit our web site at www.spiritualdirections.com and click on the counselling page.

 BOOK REVIEW

by John Everard Griffith

Power Vs. Force:  The Hidden Determinants of Human Behaviour,
David R. Hawkins,  Hay House Publishing

At Spiritual Directions we use muscle testing in a number of courses as well as in energy work and counselling.  This book describes the way muscle testing works, why it works and how it works.  Because our intellect lacks the ability to recognize falsehood it lacks the power to stop the effects of negative energy in our life.  Muscle testing is a way of accessing the truth about ourselves and about our relationships in the world.  Hawkins has developed a scale of the frequencies of energy in human consciousness and relates these to growth in all areas of life, such as sports, politics, social development, etc.  This enables us to identify behaviours that promote the development of our human consciousness.

Hawkins differentiates between positive and negative energy using the terms “power” and “force”.   Power refers to energy that is creative, loving and spiritual, in that it supports human values.  Force is ego energy that is limited, self-centred and not in sync with human and spiritual development.  Power arises from meaning and is always associated with energy that supports the significance of life itself.  Power uplifts, dignifies and ennobles.  Force, on the other hand, must always be justified.  Force must always succumb to power, because force automatically creates counter-force, which limits its effect.  Force is a movement against opposition.  Power on the other hand is still.  It is total and complete in itself and requires nothing from the outside.  Force is incomplete and has to be fed energy constantly.  Power energizes, gives forth, supplies and supports.  Force consumes.  Power gives life and energy; force takes these away.  Power is associated with compassion; force, with judgment.

This book would be of interest to readers interested in our connection to the wisdom of the collective unconscious/Spirit, the development of higher consciousness and the study of, and solutions for, human aggression.

Introduction to ARC – A Return to Consciousness

HOW TO FIND YOUR POWER

Pietro and Melanie, the founders of The ARC Institute, will demonstrate how symptoms, physical aches, pains and even unrewarding lifestyles are reflections of our internal emotional organization.

You will learn how we lose our-Selves, how we are “protected” by outdated internal systems, and how the symptom is basically a cry for help that is rarely heard. This evening presentation teaches you how to negotiate through your internal maze so that the cry for help is responded to.
