| Doing What We Can to Alleviate World Poverty and Hunger | ||
| Spiritual Directions donated 1% of our 2006 course revenues to RESULTS
Canada. RESULTS is an acronym meaning Responsibility for Ending Starvation
Using Legislation, Trim-tabbing and Support. RESULTS is a non-profit, non-partisan
and non-denominational organization that makes a difference through persistent
lobbying of governments to increase development assistance spending, and
to concentrate it in the areas of basic human needs for the poorest people.
RESULTS has proven that ordinary people can make huge changes in the world
if they apply pressure strategically. |

"RESULTS is an organization that challenges civic despair and offers a new model of citizen empowerment and leadership. As an organization, it is committed to healing the break between people and government and to helping people take back their democracy." Sam Daley-Harris, RESULTS founder |
![]() |
| RESULTS was founded over 20 years ago by a teacher named Sam Daley-Harris in response to a realization that it was political will rather than resources that stood in the way of ending global hunger and poverty. He was inspired by a report from the National Academy of Sciences which stated that we possess all of the resources, structures and technology to end hunger in a single generation, but the political will to make it a priority is missing. RESULTS is a lean organization working primarily with volunteers. Their track record with financial stewardship is exemplary. Each dollar received in 2004 was leveraged into $1500 in global health programs for the poorest peoples in the world. Read more about their humanitarian achievements at www.results-resultats.ca |
||
"The work that RESULTS chapters around the world have done to champion the cause of microcredit for the poor will go down in the history books as one of the major contributing factors to the elimination of poverty." Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank |
||
| "Each of the great social achievements of recent decades has come
about, not because of government proclamations, but because people organized,
made demands and made it good politics to respond. It is the political
will of the people that makes and sustains the political will of governments." James Grant, former executive director, UNICEF |
